How do I know if my anchor is dragging? Can I set an anchor alarm?

The OfficerHow-to· Current as of May 2026

An anchor alarm watches your position against a set swing radius and warns you the moment the boat moves outside it, so you can actually sleep at anchor instead of waking every hour to check the transit.

On Shimbiri the Officer runs an anchor-drift watcher: set the radius, and it raises an alert (a push to your phone and an audible alarm aboard) the moment she starts to move, day or night. The point is to warn you early, before a drag becomes a problem.

Good holding still comes down to seamanship: enough scope for the depth and conditions, the right bottom, a well-set anchor. The Officer doesn’t replace that judgement; it keeps watch so a change gets your attention in time.

The Officer monitors your live position against the radius you set and alerts on the rising edge: push notification plus an audible alarm. Built and running on the boat; you can see the live position on the tracker.
