Where Shimbiri’s answers come from

Every answer on shimbiri.ai names its primary source and the date it was checked. This page publishes the rulebooks behind those answers, and the moments at sea where the system did the work. Facts and dates, so anyone can check them and cite them.

The rulebooks

Each rulebook lists what an authority requires, with the clause it comes from. The answers on this site are built from these, and so is the compliance check Shimbiri runs for a boat.

At sea, on the record

  • 80th Sydney–Hobart
The same crew won PHS Division 1. The Bosun guided Shimbiri through the Category 1 certifications, audit-ready for the race.
  • Racing up the Derwent
The Weather Officer brought the Purser, PredictWind and the forecast models together into the call to tack, with the data to convince the crew.
  • The autopilot
The Chief Engineer found a hidden CAN-bus fault in the autopilot from stored data, and saved thousands. 427,000+ readings across 344 systems.
  • A flood aboard
A skipper photographed a flood and the Purser walked them through the fix, from the right page of the boat’s own manuals. 359 manuals indexed.
  • Before a passage, July 2026
Asked “are we ready?”, the Bosun caught that the insurance certificate appeared to have expired in April, and said to confirm the renewal before leaving.
  • Lady Barron, Flinders Island, 14 September 2026
Asked when to cross Bass Strait, the Weather Officer compared six departure times across five forecast models and the Bureau of Meteorology warnings, and picked the one slot no other beat on both gusts and seas.
  • Lady Barron, 15 September 2026
When it went calm at anchor, Shimbiri set the boat’s instruments, the Flinders Island airport station and five forecast models side by side, named the stale model run, and said the calm was a lull. It blew up again that afternoon: the boat recorded gusts to 41 and 42 knots while the models said about 20, and the anchor watch held her inside the circle.
