Can an app keep track of my boat’s maintenance and compliance?
Yes. Shimbiri’s Bosun keeps the maintenance schedule by engine hours and by date, records defects with their history, tracks stores and keeps the boat’s certificates and compliance in one place.
Before a passage it checks the boat is ready, and it tells you what is due, overdue or expired.
What it does
- Service schedule by engine hours and by date, with hours read from the engine
- Defects recorded with their full history and the manual’s procedure
- Stores and spares, with days remaining
- Boat certificates and the Category 1 compliance checklist
- A readiness check before every passage
The screen below is Shimbiri’s own Bosun on 26 September 2026: what needs attention, and the boat’s schedule, defects, stores, suppliers, equipment and compliance.
Seen at sea
Before a passage in July 2026, asked “are we ready?”, the Bosun caught that the insurance certificate appeared to have expired in April and said to confirm the renewal before leaving. Asked about a bow thruster defect, it gave the full history from the defect register and the inspection steps from the manufacturer’s manual, with the pages. At Lady Barron in September, one sentence stopped the anchor watch and ran the pre-departure check: the Category 1 audit and the life raft both in date.

What you need
Works from a phone or PC. Engine hours are read automatically with the Chief Engineer pack aboard; without it you enter them.
