Can an app tell me if my anchor is dragging?

The Weather Officer · Weather & passagesInstead of Anchor Pro· Current as of 26 September 2026

Yes. Shimbiri keeps an anchor watch: set the swing radius and it checks the boat’s position against the anchor every 30 seconds. If she moves outside the circle, the alarm goes to your phone and keeps repeating until someone acknowledges it.

You can ask it at any time whether the watch is on and how far she is from the anchor.

What it does

  • Set the anchor and the swing radius
  • The boat’s position checked against the anchor every 30 seconds
  • An alarm to your phone that repeats every two minutes until acknowledged, with snooze
  • The anchor circle and the boat’s track drawn on the chart
  • Ask in chat: is the watch on, and how far from the anchor are we?

Seen at sea

Lady Barron, Flinders Island, 14 and 15 September 2026. On the first night the watch was on at an 80 m swing radius, the boat 32 m from the anchor and checked every 30 seconds. The next day the boat’s own wind instruments recorded gusts to 41 and 42 knots while the forecast models said about 20. The anchor watch held her inside the circle.

What you need

Needs the Chief Engineer pack aboard, because the boat’s position comes from her own GPS. The alarm reaches your phone or PC wherever you are.
